Learner Success Stories - Nicola

Nicola - Age 41

Qualification:

  • Level 3 Social Media for Business

  • Level 2 Functional Skills (English, Mathematics, and ICT)

"My initial meet with Aspire changed my views on what I could achieve and when it was suggested    that I could take on an apprenticeship I was intrigued."

Nicola completed Level 3 Social Media for Business course which also encompassed Functional Skills. Nicola produced excellent work from the offset. Her Tutor, Wendy commented that:

"Nicola has been an excellent learner from the onset. Nicola always stretched and challenged herself within her answers and always applied her work to her role and used her new skills to complement the business, for example, Nicola implemented a Digital Crisis Management Plan for the business social media channels and this was implemented and referred to when an incident occurred. Nicola has also contributed excellent discussions relating to personal development and wellbeing, from how her learning, especially functional skills have helped Nicola to relate to her son’s school work and how healthy choices were implemented as a team effort throughout the New Year within the office. Nicola researched the impacts of GDPR and how this reflected within her customer relationship management tools.

As well as completing the Level 3 in Social Media for Business, Nicola also passed her Level 2 Functional Skills in English, Mathematics, and ICT. The mathematics was a definite achievement for Nicola, who says that mathematics and she never did get along at school. Nicola applied herself to practicing previous tests and revising mathematics and was overjoyed when she passed the test first time!

Nicola was a great learner, completing independent work to an excellent standard, showing enthusiasm and a thirst for knowledge and improving the social media and content for the business. During my visits, I also learned a lot from Nicola about fire suppression!

Nicola says that during web development meetings and SEO discussions she feels more confident at not only following the conversation but contributing to this too. I also feel that now Nicola has reopened her quest for learning, that she will continue to develop her skills on a daily basis.

Well done Nicola... The sky is the limit now!"

Nicola has found that the course helped build her confidence within her role:

"I have been able to handle issues that have arisen, and I now have in place risk assessments, procedures and plans.  All of this came from the course and I feel confident now assisting our Directors with changes to our website and liaising with our developers."

Nicola reflected upon her journey with Aspire, from the initial introduction to her completion and stated:

"Having worked in an office environment for over 22 years I have always strived to better myself.  I left school and went straight into employment and whilst I preferred to work than study I find learning through a work environment perfect for me.

My initial meet with Aspire changed my views on what I could achieve and when it was suggested that I could take on an apprenticeship I was intrigued.  I decide to choose a course that was a little out of my comfort zone and experience, and it was a risk but I am glad Aspire persuaded me to try.

I have found the course content has kept my interest throughout the year and Wendy my tutor has been engaging, enthusiastic and provided me with some great ideas and support along the way.

The support I have received from Wendy my tutor has been amazing, she guided me through and knowing sometimes just how much work I had on looked at different ways for me to provide evidence.  It was great that I was able to talk about the questions and have a discussion – which was used as evidence, as it allowed me to realise just how much I had taken on board.

I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience in this course, it has allowed me to develop our company’s social media presence.  I have been able to handle issues that have arisen, and I now have in place risk assessments, procedures and plans.  All of this came from the course and I feel confident now assisting our Directors with changes to our website and liaising with our developers.

In terms of my career aspirations, I will always continue to develop and train myself, but I now have control over a part of my job that I was unsure about before.  I feel I am able to use this moving forward if I did want to work more on marketing and social media.  For now, I am very happy to have completed the course, and I was ecstatic that I achieved the Maths, English and ICT grades.

I can highly recommend both the course and Aspire for anyone thinking about joining an apprenticeship and I am proof that you can do an apprenticeship at any age and in any field.   Thanks for making learning enjoyable."

Congratulations Nicola, and we wish you all the luck and success in your future learning journey.
