Business Plan

Once you’ve completed your course on how to become a personal trainer, Manchester you will be a certified personal trainer! As a personal trainer you will be self-employed so the success of your business will be entirely down to YOU! The obvious thing to think is that ‘the more clients I have the more money I will make’. However, remember not to compromise the quality of service that you give each client for the sake of getting a large client base. You won’t retain them! It’s better to build the number of clients and hours that you work steadily, rather than rushing into it and taking on too much work. Something that will help you to generate custom quicker is if you are clear about who your target audience is. Do you want to attract old or young people? With every business, you need a USP (Unique Selling Point) to make it stand out from the competition. There are so many PT’s around these days, why should people come to you? Decide what your USP is and highlight it!

Create training and price packages for your clients

All the clients that you come across will all have their own individual needs. No two clients will ever be the same. Some clients might need less of your time, while others might need more to get the results that they desire. That’s why designing packages – bronze, silver and gold – that are reflective in cost of the time that you will have to invest in that particular client. A client on the gold package for example, might receive weekly body fat tests, get in-depth nutrition advice and generally more support from you.

How are you going to promote your business?

There are so many different ways to promote your business but you have to decide which one will be the most effective for you. Take time to think of your business name. It has to be catchy and enable you to stand out from the crowd. Your logo and the colours that you use in it is something that new businesses often overlook. But it is just as important. Certain colours trigger certain emotions. Being a PT you want to use colours that show you are vibrant and energetic. Social media is one of the main ways that businesses market themselves. But being a full-time PT your time will be very limited. You have decide which social media platform gets you the best results and focus on that one. Have the others, but you will probably find that you become more active on a particular platform.

Be a specialist in one area of fitness

Gaining a reputation in a particular area of fitness is one way to make your business increase and make you stand out from the pack. Do you want to be known for being a specialist in increasing muscle mass, fat loss or yoga? Once you have decided aim to be one of the most renown in your area, county, region and eventually nationally. Spend 30 minutes a day studying it, researching new trends and finding out if there are any new courses that you can do to improve your knowledge. Knowledge is key. Never stop learning – keep reading, watching and listening.

Plan and review everything

In business you constantly have to plan two, three and sometimes even four steps ahead, while constantly reviewing everything that you have done so far. The planning and reviewing has to be a weekly task. The importance of this cannot be stressed enough. Carrying out (S.W.O.T analysis – Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) every seven days may sound excessive but once you start to see the results of your planning you will want to do it more. Also, once you review something, you will be able to see how effective it was and ways that you can improve it.
