#1 Listen to music.

Classical music is the recommended style to listen to when studying. The peaceful and harmonious music creates a positive and productive environment, elevating your mood and encouraging you to study more effectively and for an extended period of time.  The sounds of rain or waves is also meant to relax you, so if you’re feeling slightly more stressed than normal, this may be the way forward!

#2 Take a walk

Whether you walk to your local shops or take your dog for a walk round the park – getting fresh air will help! It is important to clear your head and take a moment to relax. Revision does not have to be a nonstop all day activity and taking a short walk will break up the day and help you reflect on what you’ve been revising.

#3 Sleep

Although it might seem like a good idea to stay up late and cram as much information into your brain as possible – it’s not! A lack of sleep could drastically reduce your ability to retain information, so get a good nights sleep!

#4 20 minute rule

It can be easy to get distracted by your phone or social media when studying for exams. Staring at your book and writing notes for a long period of time can seem boring and your phone is seen as a welcomed distraction. Try the 20 minute rule. Studying solidly for 20 minutes, with no distractions and once the 20 minutes is up take a short 10 minute, and then get back to the books!

#5 Don’t worry after

So you’ve completed your exam and it now time to head home and relax however, for some people the stress doesn’t stop after the exam has finished. People think about what they could have done differently in their exam, compare answers to friends and can convince themselves that you’ve failed before they’ve even got their test results.  This thinking is not helpful, you’ve done your best and nothing can be changed now.  Relax!

#6 Study plan

Whatever you’re studying, it’s time to make a plan.  We all know that cramming everything in the night before is not the most effective way to study, therefore it might be time to make a schedule. Make a plan of what subject you’re going to study, what area of the subject and how long for each day to make the most of your time.
