Aspire Staff Success

In 2012 I found myself out of work as a Head Chef and was claiming JSA, I was asked if I would like to attend the Aspire course in late 2012 early 2013 at Eccles Rugby Club by the job centre. The course appealed to me as coaching and teaching was something that I was really interested in and was already coaching kids grass roots football. The course was only 3 days a week for 8 weeks and during the course I completed the BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Work-skills and the NVQ level 2 in activity leadership. I developed some good skills during this course in particular my group communication, my leadership style and my confidence. Once I completed the course and passed my qualifications, I was offered an interview with my course tutor and the owner of the company. I was successful at gaining employment with Aspire in February 2013, I worked for the company for only 2 months though as I was offered a chance to coach football in America which is something I’d always dreamt of, so I left the company in April 2013. In March 2017 I was given the opportunity to come back and work for Aspire and have excelled in my coaching and teaching since coming back, Aspire have put me through numerous qualifications since coming back and I have progressed from shadowing tutors on courses, to leading my own courses and most recently in becoming one of the Lead Tutors at Aspire in just 2 years. I have been supported by the company throughout my progression and am still being supported and upskilled to this day.

Before I began the Aspire course in February 2015 I was unemployed and claiming Jobseekers Allowance after leaving my job in a Manchester based call centre. I was asked by my Job Centre Advisor if I would like to go onto the Aspire course, I was a little apprehensive at first and was unsure whether it would suit me, after a long conversation she persuaded me to go for the first day and try it. After completing the 3-week course I was asked by my tutor if I would be interested in a job at Aspire to which I replied yes as the course was extremely enjoyable and it allowed me to further understand my passion for teaching and coaching. Years later, I am still with Aspire and have progressed massively in my career, I have gained two qualifications in teaching and assessing: Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement and Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training and have managed to progress within the company to becoming a Lead Tutor allowing me to pass on my knowledge and experience and support other tutors within the business.

I attended the Aspire course in 2013 at Blackburn Soccer Dome, the course was only 2 days a week for 8 weeks. During the course I completed the NVQ level 2 in activity leadership and BTEC work skills. At that time, I was on JSA and had been unemployed for 6 months, during the course I gained numerous amounts of skills including public speaking, I was always very shy but this course helped me develop my confidence and leadership skills. Once I completed the course and passed my qualifications, I was offered an interview and was successful at gaining employment with Aspire in June 2013. Since then Aspire have put me through additional qualifications including my PTLLS level 4, my A1 Assessors award, personal training level 3 and First aid, as well as online training. In my 5 and a half years I have developed so much, starting off as a trainee Tutor shadowing others during training, then to becoming responsible for leading my own site as a Tutor. I am now working my way towards a new role and new opportunities.

I attended the Aspire course in 2017 at People Plus in Shoreditch, the course was 5 days a week for 3 weeks. I was on JSA at the time while doing some temp work in schools as a Teaching Assistant. While on the course I completed an NVQ in Activity Leadership, Active IQ level 1 and 2 in Leading Health Related Activity Sessions and Emergency First Aid. I really enjoyed my time on the course and found the Tutors really relatable, so once I completed the course and was offered an opportunity to shadow one of the tutors on site, I was more than happy to. After shadowing on a couple of courses I was offered a job at Aspire. Since working at Aspire I have been through various training courses and online training as well as being supported completing my Assessors Award. I am encouraged to continually grow and expand on my skills as a Tutor.
