Apprenticeships Manchester: how did businesses benefit?

Last week we were shouting about National Apprenticeship Week! Year on year this has been a fantastic event that has grown in popularity and reach, and is a great opportunity for businesses to find out more about how they can get involved with apprenticeships in Manchester and across the North West.

In past years, National Apprenticeship Week has been a boon for businesses and jobs in Lancashire, and this year was no different.

The aim of the week, which is run by Apprenticeships.Gov is to drive growth towards creating 3 million apprenticeships in Manchester and across the country.

Some of the biggest names who have pledged to offer apprenticeships include Adecco, who have pledged 50 apprenticeship schemes, Sellafield who have pledged 165, the BBC, Starbucks, Prezzo and Deloitte.

This year so far, there have been almost 6000 pledges to provide apprenticeships in Manchester and across the country. On the first day of the week alone, National Apprenticeship Week was trending nationally, with over 13,500 tweets.  By the end of the week, the hashtag had been tweeted/retweeted and appeared on Twitter user’s timelines a combined total of over 4,000,000 times – providing a huge boost to businesses, events and the benefits of apprenticeships.

Monday saw the Arena MK in Milton Keynes host its first National Apprenticeship Show with over 100 employers and providers showcasing opportunities to visitors. Throughout the week there were incredible events from the likes of Channel 4, local councils, as well as an interactive apprenticeship event at the BT Tower.

We loved Friday's activities, including Lancashire apprentice Ben Finch and construction director Keith Collard of Redrow Homes swapping roles for a day to discover ‘how the other half lives’:
"Keith, 52, from Chorley, got the chance to get his hands dirty drilling out joists and fitting pipes as a plumber, while Ben, 17, from Wigan, got suited and booted for a day at the office."

If you’re interested in creating an apprenticeship opportunity, whether that’s a job in Lancashire, or elsewhere in the country, get in touch and let us know! We can find a great learner to fill the position who will give added value to your business!
